The San Angelo Police Officers Association, the San Angelo Coalition of Police and the San Angelo Convention and Visitors Bureau along with the Texas Police Athletic Federation and the San Angelo Police Department are proud to announce the selection of San Angelo to be the host city for the 42nd Annual Texas Police Games to be held in June2016.
The three entities have been working together since February of this year to prepare a bid to entice the Texas Police Games to San Angelo in 2016. Through partnerships with the City of San Angelo Recreation Department, San Angelo Independent School District and San Angelo Soccer Association, San Angelo was successfully selected as the host city.
The Texas Police Games are well organized competitive events that enable commissioned Police Officers the opportunity to compete with fellow Police Officers from around the State of Texas. The games include such events as Archery, Basketball, Biathlon, Cycling, Golf, Karate, Power Lifting, Firearms and many others. The games are held once a year in various cities in Texas.
The games are expected to bring more than 1,000 Police Officers and their families to San Angelo from June 12th to June17th, 2016. The events will be held at such venues as the San Angelo Stadium Field House, The Texas Bank SportsComplex, The McNease Convention Center among others. The public is invited to visit these venues and watch the games.
The concept of the Texas Police Athletic Federation, better known as the TPAF, was conceived in 1974 by officers Steve G. Baggs (Texas Department of Public Safety) O.L. Cullum (Ft. Worth Police Department) and Tim R. Vought (Dallas Police Department). These officers conducted the first Texas Police Recruit Championships in Dallas in April of 1975. The event was repeated in Austin in January of 1976 and in Ft. Worth in December 1976. The last time San Angelo hosted the Texas Police Games was in the 1980's.
The TPAF was chartered and received its original funding through contributions made by the Dallas Police Association and the Texas Department of Public Safety officers Association. The TPAF was established to foster physical fitness and comradeship among peace officers in the State of Texas and other states by the organization and promotion of athletic events and competitions in which peace officers can compete.

Wanted Robbery suspect Joe Anthony Castro (AKA Joe Anthony Dill) was arrested Saturday evening after a brief foot chase in North San Angelo.
On September 6, 2014, just after 6:30 p.m., San Angelo Police Officer C. Barker was patrolling the unit block of W. 11th Street when he observed a man in the south alley. The man resembled Castro, who was wanted for several outstanding warrants.
Officer Barker attempted to make contact with the man to confirm his suspicion, but as soon as he approached, the man ran off and a brief foot pursuit ensued.
Officer Barker pursued the man to Chadbourne Street where he was taken into custody and positively identified as Castro. During a search of Castro, officers located drug paraphernalia.
Castro was charged with Evading Arrest Detention, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and his three outstanding County Warrants for MTR Robbery, Failure to Appear, and Public Intoxication.
Castro was transported to the Tom Green County Jail after telling police he knew he was wanted. Castro also requested that officers remove his Wanted Poster from the police department's Facebook page. The Wanted Poster was published on August 6, 2014.
San Angelo Police compromised on the request by posting an updated poster that reflects Castro's status.

This morning 09/02/2014 at 2:31 am San Angelo Police Dispatch received a call in reference to a disturbance at a residence in the 2700 block Houston Street. Upon arrival our officers located three victims of an assault to include 62 year old Jesusita Bermea, 33 year old Tanya Bermea, and 5 year old Naiya Villegas. The suspect was also on scene and has been identified as 23 year old Isidro Miguel Delacruz Jr. of San Angelo. The adult female victims were assaulted by Delacruz at the residence, and both were transported to Shannon Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. Five year old Naiya received a knife wound to her neck during the assault and was transported to Shannon where she succumbed to her injuries a short time later. Delacruz was taken into custody at the scene and was transported to the Tom Green County Jail where he is being held on a murder charge with a one million dollar bond.
Preliminary investigation indicates Delacruz forced entry into Tanya's residence on Houston Street through a bathroom window. As Delacruz entered the residence, Tanya left the residence to seek help from family members at two separate locations. Upon returning to her residence, Tanya and her mother, Jesusita Bermea, were assaulted by Delacruz. Jesusita placed the disturbance call to Dispatch at 2:31 am and officers arrived at 2:37 am. Upon arrival, officers immediately began to administer first aid to Naiya. It is believed that Naiya was assaulted after Tanya left the residence and before the officers arrived on scene.
The suspect, Isidro Delacruz, and Tanya Bermea had previously been in a dating relationship. Delacruz and Naiya were not related.
As part of the investigation, Naiya was transported to Lubbock for autopsy as requested by Justice of the Peace E. Howard.
The San Angelo Police Department Criminal Investigative Division is actively involved in the investigative process. Our investigators are working to determine a motive and exact sequence of events involving the assaults. This investigation is less than 24 hours old, and there are still a lot of details to confirm. We do not have any further details to release at this time.

Delacruz, Isidro

Cornielus T. Cormier (DOB 03-31-89) of San Angelo was arrested yesterday evening following a brief car and foot chase that ended at a residence in the 1200 block of S. Bryant Blvd.
At approximately 6:18 yesterday, August 27, 2014, a San Angelo Police Patrol Officer observed a 2009 Dodge Caliber speeding northbound in the 1100 block of S. Koengheim Street. Officer R. Spearman attempted to conduct a traffic stop; however, the driver refused to comply and a vehicle pursuit ensued through the adjoining Santa Rita neighborhood.
During the pursuit, the driver ran through several stop signs while reaching speeds in upwards of 65 mph. Officer Spearman briefly lost sight of the vehicle but soon located it, abandoned in the parking lot of the Cross Keys Apartments, 1222 S. Bryant Blvd.
Police quickly established a perimeter that stretched several blocks, requesting the help of additional officers and the San Angelo Police Department's K-9 Unit. During the search, one witness told police they observed the suspect run from the vehicle after it came to an abrupt stop. Other witnesses told police they saw a man running into the backyard of a residence in the 1200 block of S. Bryant Blvd.
Police surrounded the residence and made contact with the property owner, who was inside at the time of the incident. A brief time later, Cormier exited the residence and surrendered to police. He was taken into custody without incident. Police believe Cormier may have fled because he was wanted for several outstanding arrest warrants.
Cormier was charged with Felony Evading Arrest Detention in a Vehicle, a Felony Arrest Warrant for Injury to a Child/Elderly/Disabled with Intent to Cause Bodily Injury, and three City Warrants. Cormier was transported to the Tom Green County Jail without incident.
No one was injured during the pursuit.

Ignacio Martinez (DOB 06-04-89) of San Angelo was arrested early this morning on suspicion of Driving While Intoxicated after he crashed into an unoccupied patrol car in the 2600 block of College Hills Blvd.
Reports indicate that Martinez was southbound on College Hills Blvd. driving a 2008 Chrysler 300 when he collided with a marked San Angelo Police Department patrol unit. The patrol unit was being used to block southbound lanes from oncoming traffic while officers conducted an unrelated hit and run investigation that left utility lines in the roadway. The patrol unit's emergency lights were activated at the time of the crash. The crash occurred just after 2:00 a.m.
After the collision, Martinez submitted to field sobriety tests before being transported to the Tom Green County Jail. Alcohol consumption was listed as a contributing factor in the crash report. Martinez was reportedly wearing a seatbelt and not injured from the crash.
Police were initially dispatched to the area around 1:20 a.m. for the report of a single vehicle hit and run crash that occurred in the 2700 block of College Hills Blvd. During the crash investigation, police learned the driver of a 2009 Lincoln MKZ was swerving in the roadway before its driver lost control, left the roadway, and collided with a utility pole. A witness told police a male driver exited the vehicle after the collision and ran away. The driver, later identified as Michael Uranga (DOB 10-13-85) of San Angelo, was located at approximately 2:00 a.m. at a residence in the 3800 block of Inglewood Drive. Uranga appeared to be suffering from minor injuries he sustained in the crash.
Subsequent to the field investigation, Uranga was charged with Failure to stop and leave Identification Upon Striking a Fixed Object and transported to the Tom Green County Jail. Alcohol consumption was listed as a contributing factor in the crash report.
