Press Release 032615(14)-Good Samaritans Step in, Aid Police during Pursuit
Mar 26, 2015   02:17 PM

A juvenile was arrested last night after he led police on a pursuit in a stolen vehicle.

On March 25, 2015, just after 11:00 p.m., San Angelo Police were dispatched to the 1500 block of Webster Avenue for the report of a suspicious person in the area.  Upon arrival, Officers met with witnesses who said they observed a male suspect breaking into several neighbor's vehicles before driving off in a pickup truck.

Officers began canvassing the area and soon located a suspicious vehicle that matched the description of the truck near the intersection of Woodlawn and Van Buren.  Officers attempted to stop the vehicle; however, the driver refused to stop and a vehicle pursuit ensued.  The driver traveled at excessive speeds until the truck struck a curb in the 1000 block of Monroe Street.  The collision sent the truck into the front yard of a residence where it struck a landscaped area and flattened one tire.  The driver continued to flee through surrounding streets and turned south onto the Howard Street bridge where it collided with one of the guardrails.  After the collision, the driver backed up and continued to flee eastbound on Freeland and north onto Bryant Boulevard.  After turning east at the 300 block of W. 10th Street, the suspect stopped the truck and fled on foot.  Two Good Samaritans who were nearby observing the activity grabbed the suspect and detained him until officers took him into custody.

After checking the truck's registration information through records, police discovered the pickup had been reported stolen earlier that day.

The male suspect, a fifteen-year-old from San Angelo, complained of injury once he was taken into custody and was transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation.  After his release, the suspect was transported to the Juvenile Detention Center and charged with Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle and Evading in a Vehicle.

The San Angelo Police Department would like to thank the Good Samaritans who aided in the suspect's apprehension.

One arrest has been made in connection to a shooting incident that occurred yesterday in a north San Angelo neighborhood.  Jarrett Jackson (DOB 12-08-91) of San Angelo has been charged with Obstruction/Retaliation after confirming Jackson's involvement in the shooting.  Police are searching for additional suspects who are believed to be involved; however, no arrests have been made at this time.

Police were dispatched to the 500 block of W. 16th just before 2:00 p.m. on March 24, 2015 after receiving multiple calls for shots fired in the area.  When officers arrived, they located evidence that a shooting occurred.  Several adult and child witnesses were located.  No one was injured during the incident.  Their names are not being released at this time.

After a lengthy investigation, police learned Jackson went to a residence in the area with at least two other men to locate an acquaintance he had a history of conflict with when Jackson and the other men engaged the residents in a verbal altercation.  At some point during the altercation, one or more unknown persons from both groups began shooting at each other from the street.  After the shooting, Jackson and the men reportedly fled the area northbound on Hudson in a white passenger car.

Detectives with the Department's Criminal Investigations Division and Special Operations Section (SOS) along with CSI responded to investigate and collect evidence.  Jackson was located several hours after the shooting and brought in for questioning.  After the interview, Detectives charged Jackson with Obstruction/Retaliation because the unnamed acquaintance is a party to a previous criminal case against Jackson.
