Just after 9:30 a.m. this morning, San Angelo Police were dispatched to the area of Grand Canal Road and U.S. HWY South 277 for the report of a major traffic crash with injuries involving a passenger car and an SUV.
San Angelo Fire Department Personnel responded to the scene and used the Jaws of Life to extricate the Jeep's passenger. Both driver and passenger were transported to Shannon Medical Center for treatment of incapacitating injuries. The Jeep's passenger, eighty (80) year old Lloyd Argabright, later succumbed to injuries he sustained in the crash. He was pronounced deceased at 11:56 a.m. by Hospital Staff. The Jeep's driver, seventy-one (71) year-old Nancy Argabright, remains hospitalized in critical condition. It was reported that Mr. and Mrs. Argabright, residents of Del Rio, Texas, were traveling through the San Angelo area heading to a family reunion in Kansas.
The driver of the second vehicle, a fifty (50) year old Christoval woman, was also injured in the crash. She was transported to Shannon Medical Center for treatment of non-incapacitating injuries. She has since been released.
Crash Investigators working the scene reported the Argabright's 2014 Jeep Patriot was headed eastbound on Grand Canal when the driver disregarded a yield sign and drove into the path of the 2011 Lexus, which was traveling north on HWY 277. The Lexus collided with the Jeep's front passenger area, which caused the Jeep to go into a skid and roll one time before it came to rest upright on its wheels.
Next of kin has been notified. This is an ongoing investigation and no other information is available at this time.

On May 18, 2015 at approximately 10:00 pm, Police were dispatched to the 5200 block of Knickerbocker for a motor vehicle crash. It was reported that a vehicle had crashed into the traffic signal pole at the intersection of Bentwood and Knickerbocker.
Police arrived and found the driver of the vehicle, a silver 1998 Chevrolet pickup, unresponsive. The driver was transported by San Angelo Fire Department medics to Shannon Medical Center for incapacitating injuries. At the hospital, the driver was identified as Zachary Thomas Malloy DOB 10-29-90. Malloy succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
Traffic Investigator Steven Quade responded to the scene to investigate the crash. Through the investigation it was learned that Malloy was southbound on Knickerbocker. A witness driving behind Malloy observed Malloy's vehicle hydroplane and crash into the traffic signal pole.
Malloy was the only occupant of the vehicle, and there were no other vehicles involved in the crash.
The weather was listed as a contributing factor on the crash report. The crash is still under investigation.
The investigation of the two Aggravated Robberies at Allsup's, 514 N Main, and Best Value Inn, 1601 S Bryant, has led the arrest of Daniel Zurita DOB 07-15-1988.
Evidence located at the scene of the robberies and other information led to identifying Zurita as the suspect in the offenses. Yesterday, members of CID, Special Operations, SWAT, K9, and patrol conducted surveillance at various locations throughout the city where Zurita is known to frequent.
At approximately 5:00 pm yesterday, Zurita was located in the 1700 block of Magdalen. Zurita was taken into custody without incident.
Zurita was transported to the Tom Green County Jail and charged with Aggravated Robbery. Zurita also had outstanding warrants.
On May 12, 2015, the San Angelo Police Department Narcotics Division obtained a Search and Arrest Warrant for Jon Escobedo, DOB 9-12-1987, and his residence located in the 2000 block of Raney. Escobedo was located driving in the area and a traffic stop was made on the vehicle by members of the Special Operations unit. Angel Enriquez, DOB 07-12-1988, was also in the vehicle. Enriquez was found to be in possession of approximately 26 grams of a substance that field tested positive for methamphetamine.
During the execution of the Search Warrant at Escobedo's residence, Andrea Pedroza, DOB 7-5-1988, was located inside. During the search of the residence a quantity of a substance that field tested positive for methamphetamine was located as well as an assault rifle.
All three suspects were transported to the Tom Green County Jail. Escobedo was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance less than one gram and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon. Pedroza was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance less than one gram and warrants. Enriquez was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance greater than 4 grams but less than 200 grams and Possession of Marijuana less than 2 ounces.

Aside from thirteen awards categories, Chief's Special Awards are given to those who, because of their extra effort or participation, have made the mission of the San Angelo Police Department more attainable.
In early spring, employees are invited to nominate fellow co-workers for consideration in each respective category. After the nomination deadline, the Department's Meritorious Conduct Board meets to discuss the nominees before selecting the winners.
